Halloween - a briefly introduction to the historical development

Halloween - the night of the dead! The name of this public holiday has its origin in the term "All Hallows´ Eve". This constitutes the night from 31th of October to the 1st of November, thus the eve of All Hallows, because from the liturgical point of view the day ends with the sunset and the evening is already the beginning of the feast.
In former times the Celts celebrated the end of summer with a festival called "Samhain" as an counterpart to the spring festival "Beltane"("Walpurgis Night"), which is the start of summer. It was a tradition of this feast to ignite so called bonefires at the hills and to dress up to drive away evil spirits. This Celtic feast was gradually replaced by All Hallows´ Eve, the Christian festival for the dead.
Until the early 19th century Halloween was celebrated only int the Catholic areas of Britain, therefore chiefly Ireland. The modern Halloween was established by the Irish immigrants in the USA and emerged - along with Christmas, Thanksgiving and the Independence Day - to one of the most important public holidays there. During the last years of the 20th century the American Halloween traditions spread, virtually like a re-import, to Europe.

But not only Zombies come out of their graves, crypts and dark alleys on Halloween. Everybody who is anybody of the Horror genre, cavorts among the living on All Hallows´ Eve to spread fear and panic at Halloween parties. You never know exactly if the werewolf next to you is real or just a human beeing in a costume. Here are a few tips for appropriate Halloween outfits, so that you don´t step out of line!

	Serial Killer It has never been easier to become a serial killer. And you don´t have to sell your own grandmother for it. For this Halloween costume just take the old jacket, which you´ve worn at the last wedding ceremony, out of the wardrobe, shirt and patns and thereto a hat. Ready!
