Wollfilz

Beinlinge kamen im europäischen Mittelalter im späten 11. Jahrhundert auf und setzten sich künftig in Mittel- und Westeuropa als Beinbekleidung durch. Ihr Ursprung ist möglicherweise in Byzanz zu suchen. Was wir wissen ist, dass sie zuerst Mode der herrschenden Klasse waren und sich von dort aus in die Bevölkerung verbreiteten.

Die engen Beinlinge, welche immer aus Wolle bestanden und sowohl mit, als auch ohne integrierten Fußteil zu sehen waren, bestimmten fortan das Schönheitsideal der Männermode.

Anfang des 15. Jahrhunderts begannen Beinlinge immer mehr einer geschlossenen Hose zu ähneln; das bedeutet, sie wurden höher und wuchsen schließlich oben zusammen.

Die schöne Wade wurde mit dem Erfolg der Beinlinge für Jahrhunderte eines der modischen Aushängeschilder männlicher Attraktivität. Beinlinge sollten demnach nicht locker wie eine moderne Hose sitzen, sondern eher wie eine enge Strumpfhose. Dies wird durch die Textileigenschaften der Wolle ermöglicht.
