Negative: A bit bended but with some improvisation easy to solve. Positive: not clumso in use, neutral looling, light and strong
I once had a round shield but unfortunately it broke and I do like to have a shield when I’m in the shield wall. So with the intention to get a new shield I saw this beauty.
First thoughts was if it was something for me. Always used a round shield and never a rectangular one. But the that size, 99x46, that would be practical in every situation. It would defiantly not by to large to be clumsy or to small that it would not enough protection.
A negative thing about the shield is that it’s a bit bended, so the grip is a bit tricky. Horizontal feels weird because you latterly hold the shield at two points of only one you can have a firm grip. Vertical you have only one point to hold one so that was for me a no go (maybe I gave it up to quick).
My solution was to was to wear it diagonal and it holds up perfectly with a lot of control and you can use the extra belts to store a dagger or to carry your weapon. So in the end it is not all so bad.
A positive thing about the shield is that it’s a bit bended. Yes I said that was a negative point, but if you block an attack you have automatically protection on your flanks and for my own experience it’s easy to manoeuvre and benefit in most situations.
In the end I bought the bugger and it was worth every euro. Good looking, light, and most important strong. The size gives me (strongly build male of 1,80) the protection that I need while in a LARP battle situation against the blows and arrows of mostly every foe. I can recommend the use of any short weapons be it axes, swords or maces.
So are you looking for a large shield that is not as large that it’s exaggerated and practical in almost every situation, than stop looking and consider this model! :)
